Teeth

My Big Girl is coming close to the age where teeth are going to fall out.  Unfortunately, when she was two she banged one of her top teeth, and it turned gray.  It didn’t fall out, and her dentist said it wasn’t anything to worry about.

Two days ago she came up to me and said the bump above her tooth (a skin problem…already checked out by a dermatologist) looks like a tooth.  I took a peek and saw that her permanent tooth had indeed started coming out…about a 1/4 inch above her baby tooth.  To say this terrified me would be an understatement.

The pediatric dentist called back and said it wasn’t really a big deal, but we have an appointment for Sunday when she will have to "make room" for the new tooth.  I really hate euphamisms.  I also hate dealing with medical stuff.

I can’t find any web information easily about what needs to be done, but I did find a great website about how teeth develop.  Keep an eye out for that first wiggly tooth at 6 years…

  1. That happened to me, but I was about 10 or 11. The permanent tooth came in right above the baby tooth. The dentist pulled the baby tooth (not so bad, really) and the permanent tooth moved down.

  2. Sorry I can’t help. I had to have my son’s two front teeth pulled out when he was 2.6 from something similar. He was getting an infection and the gum was swelling. My guess is the dentist will pull the milk tooth out…I think that’s what was done with my younger brother, before he got braces… at one point it’s like he had a double row of teeth on the bottom. don’t worry, all will be well.
